GREEN BRITAIN DAY

For those who don't know or forgot about it, today in Green Britain Day! :)

London is covered with nice greeny posters displayed on billboards. I've seen three types of them but probably there are more...

The first I've noticed was the one with a new version of Union Jack :) A greeny patchwork that creates Britain's eco flag :)
English also have their pink Gay Union Jack. Sorry but I think it looks much better than the original version ;)

Each photo goes with a short notice that explains the main purpose of each poster.

I like the idea of showing people that ecology is related to every part of our life.

GO GREEN! :)

Banksy's 'Praise The Tesco'

I love this graffiti! :) For me it's really incredible! The solemn moment of raising the bag looks very real, even though it's irrational. In my opinion it also might make fun of praising patriotic symbols without any consideration.

Whenever I pass this work of art (IT DEFINITELY IS ART!) I'm amazed! And I'm grateful the Bansky's graffiti is now protected from the outside world by some sort of plastic transparent boards. A museum on the street?

I've found another photo at Flickr.

More comments and videos about Banksy available at NowPublic.

And if you're interested in Banksy himself, there's a vast article about him on Wikipedia.

Piss on the RECESSION

Sweet and innocent color? I would say pink!! Since today I think I was wrong...

Walking down Great Easter Street again I've passed along the window of a design company Tanie Brand. Three words I've noticed made me laugh for the restof the day (in fact whenever I look at this photo a smile appears on my face): F*CK YOU RECESSION.

What do you reckon? Indignant about seeing such curse in a public place? Or maybe delighted that finally someone decided to express a point of view similar to yours? That's exactly what came to my mind when I first saw the sentence :)

Here's a link to see a short film about preparing the company's window: http://www.taniemedia.com/about/viewpoint.
There's also a blog on their website where you can read about this unusual idea and make your comment.

I suppose the fact that this statement is stuck near the silicon roundabout makes it sound even stronger! Who know it better than the start-ups or small companies what the recession means?

Street Art about crisis

First of all I'm not quite sure if graffiti is a type of art that is related to graphic design... Anyway, in general I like art that is shown in public spaces and affects our everyday life, and that's why I decided to mention here about this interesting graffiti.

I've noticed several campaigns in London that are related to the current economic crisis (to be honest, not only economic, ut this is how it all began).

The Crisis graffiti that has recently caught my eyes definitely has an impact on all passer-bys (most of them turn their heads towards the wall painted in white).
What I find interesting are it's contrasting colors, noticeable especially on the neglected background. The word Crisis painted in black and the red question mark ? surround the unpainted sentence which is in fact the wall itself.

Don't you think it's rather funny that this huge graffiti appeared in the street that leads to The City of London :)

The way the word crisis is written resembles the logo of the charity organisation called CRISIS.
You can find further information about them on their website or read directly about this campaign.

Welcome :)

Graphic design, especially posters, is something that interests me very much.
I've decided to create this blog for my observations and opinions on this fantastic topic :)
Enjoy!
